I am a Smith college senior, aspiring midwife and doula, who has a passion for reproductive justice and honoring the power of women and birthers. I was trained as a birth doula in January 2018, with Warm Welcome Birth Services. While I have not attended a birth yet, I am eager to begin implementing the things I have learned thus far. I believe that safety, respect and comfort are some of the most influental aspects on birthing outcomes. As a doula, my job is to support the birther and partner (if applicable) in any way that I can, which looks different for every person. Numerous studies have demonstrated that doulas have a positive impact on birthing outcomes, even if just sitting in the room. My goal as a birth-doula is to mold my practice to the birther's needs before, during and after their labor, acknowledging the uniqueness of every individual experience and decision. There is no right or wrong way to give birth, and my role as a non-medical support is to honor the birthing decisions and hopes of my client as best as I can. As a new doula, I am passionate to begin the work that feels meaningful to me. I hope that my services can help relieve stress and anxiety from the birthing journey, especially for those who may not want to pay much or are unable to afford a more experienced doula.
